After a lot of hard work, we're please to have another vacation property in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin that we are calling the Lake Street Retreat. The house was originally built in 1880 as a single family home. When we purchased it, it had been divided into a two family home, one unit downstairs, one unit upstairs. It is still two separate units but each has been completely rehabbed while still retaining it's vintage charm.
While rehabbing the house we had some wonderful surprises like finding the original wood floors downstairs under many layers of carpet and removing drop ceilings to uncover 10 foot ceilings. We also removed walls to make a more open space, added more windows/skylights and finished the units with custom bathroom vanities, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.
Lake Street Retreat is located a 1/2 of block from our East Street home, in the heart of Elkhart Lake.
We are renting the house on extended weekend/weekly basis during the summer and for monthly, weekly or weekend rentals during the off season.
As some many of you know, Elkhart Lake is a very special place to us because it is close to family and friends. It also recently(5 years ago now) became the place we exchanged our marriage vows. The location is truly ideal for a family as the beach provides endless hours of entertainment for children. It is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere where children can play and you can socialize and soak up some sun. It is also a great place for a group of adults to go for a fun escape from it all. The town offers plenty to do with a variety of places to eat, drink, golf, shop and fish.
It is difficult to put into words, but once you spend a few days in the sun in this intimate little community, you will not want to leave.
